Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Education Minister V Sivankutty has said that the revision of school textbooks from Classes 1 to 12 is nearing completion. The minister stated that since 2022, during the curriculum revision process, the Union government has been attempting to impose its policies through the National Education Policy (NEP).

He said that 597 title textbooks for Classes 1 to 10, along with 39 revised title textbooks for Class 11, scheduled for release this year, are being prepared strictly in accordance with the Kerala Curriculum Framework developed by the state.

For several years, NCERT textbooks have been used for Higher Secondary first and second year classes. However, the minister pointed out that in recent times, major deletions and omissions have been made in NCERT textbooks, particularly in History, Political Science and Sociology. In view of this, Kerala has decided to publish its own textbooks for these three subjects.

The revised Higher Secondary first-year textbooks will be released by the end of January, with nearly four lakh copies being published across 39 titles.

Sivankutty asserted that Kerala would academically resist the Centre’s attempt to unilaterally impose the National Education Policy. He added that the state would not consider the additional financial burden involved as a deterrent. Kerala will continue to retain and strengthen textbook content that upholds secularism, scientific temper, democratic values, and the constitutional ethos, the minister said.
