Thiruvananthapuram: The 2024 National Achievement Survey (NAS), which evaluates the academic performance of students across the country, has placed Kerala among the top-performing states. Kerala secured the second position nationally with an overall average score of 65.33 points, a steep rise from the 16th rank in the 2021 survey. Punjab came first with 68 points.
Despite the Centre withholding an eligible amount of Rs 1,500 crore, Kerala surpassed states that received crores worth of financial aid, making this achievement even more significant. The survey assessed students in Classes 3, 6, and 9, covering subjects including language, mathematics, environmental studies, science, and social science.
Kerala ranked first in Class 6, second in Class 9, and third in Class 3. In comparison, the 2021 NAS had focused on Classes 3, 5, and 8.
A total of 46,737 students from 1,644 schools in Kerala participated in the survey. Across India, the survey covered 21.15 lakh students from 74,000 schools. Education Minister V. Sivankutty said the results acknowledge the state government's sustained efforts to strengthen public education.
