Thiruvananthapuram: Monsoon-battered Kerala continued to grapple with intense weather-related challenges on Tuesday, as persistent rainfall led to widespread inundation of low-lying areas and sea incursion affected several coastal regions.
In many districts, families living in vulnerable zones were relocated to relief camps after floodwaters entered homes and remained stagnant. Southern coastal belts faced severe sea erosion and damage from high tidal waves, with several houses reporting structural damage.
In Ernakulam district, areas like Kannamaly were among the worst affected by sea incursion, where floodwaters remained high, causing hardship for residents.
According to official data, three relief camps have been opened in Kottayam district and 12 in Thrissur. Authorities confirmed that one house was fully destroyed and 11 others suffered partial damage due to weather-related incidents.
Northern districts such as Kasaragod also reported flooding and minor mudslides caused by swollen rivers. Emergency teams are closely monitoring river levels and have taken precautionary measures to prevent further damage.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast moderate rainfall accompanied by gusty winds up to 50 km/h in parts of Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Kannur, and Kasaragod over the coming hours. Other districts are also likely to witness moderate showers and wind speeds of up to 40 km/h.
Authorities have urged the public to remain alert and follow safety advisories issued by the IMD and local officials as monsoon activity is expected to persist.
