Thiruvananthapuram: Alongside highway development, Kerala’s rural and urban roads are also on a path of comprehensive improvement, said Minister MB Rajesh. Over the past five years, 8867.07 crore rupees has been spent solely from project allocations and the Road Maintenance Fund, he noted.

The minister added that Kerala’s rural roads are also “shining,” and that development is now visible in every village across the state.

According to Rajesh, 5265 roads were reconstructed at a cost of 913.06 crore rupees under the Chief Minister’s Rural Road Rehabilitation Scheme Phases 1 and 2, implemented with direct state funding for local road development. Construction of the remaining roads under the scheme is still in progress.

He further stated that these works are in addition to the roads developed as part of the Rebuild Kerala Initiative launched post-floods, as well as those constructed under various central–state joint schemes such as Smart City, AMRUT, and PMGSY.
