El Nino eases Rain Intensity; Red Alerts Withdrawn for Sunday as Fishing Ban Extended to June 9

Thiruvananthapuram: The influence of El Nino is causing a reduction in rainfall intensity across Kerala. The India Meteorological Department has accordingly withdrawn red alerts that had been issued for several districts for Sunday. However, high vigilance remains in place today, with red alerts for five districts and orange alerts for six.
Today's alerts (June 6): Red alert — Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, Kasaragod. Orange alert — Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad. Yellow alert — Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha.
June 7: Orange alert for Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod. Yellow alert for all other districts.
June 8: Orange alert for Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod. Yellow alert elsewhere.
June 9: Orange alert for Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod.
June 10: Yellow alert for Kannur and Kasaragod only.
Fishing has been banned along the Kerala, Lakshadweep, and Karnataka coasts from today until June 9 due to strong winds and rough sea conditions.
The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority has issued the following public advisories: residents in landslide-prone hill areas must relocate to safer locations during daylight hours and avoid all night travel in hilly terrain; no one should enter rivers or water bodies or go fishing during heavy rain; standing on bridges for sightseeing or taking selfies must be avoided; non-essential travel should be postponed until alerts are lifted; extreme caution must be exercised near waterlogged areas due to the risk of fallen power lines — report electrical hazards to KSEB on 1912.
