Rain to Bring Relief as Heat Persists in Keralam; Yellow Alert in Four Districts

Thiruvananthapuram: Rain is expected to bring some relief as hot weather continues across Keralam, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a yellow alert in four districts on Saturday.

Kottayam, Idukki, Malappuram and Kozhikode have been placed under yellow alert, with isolated heavy rainfall expected. Heavy rain refers to rainfall between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm within 24 hours. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are also possible in some areas.

The IMD said isolated light rain is likely in parts of Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam and Ernakulam during the next three hours.

A caution has also been issued for the coastal areas of Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam due to the possibility of the swell surge phenomenon.

According to the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS), waves between 0.8 metres and 1.4 metres are likely along the Thiruvananthapuram coast, from Kappil to Pozhiyoor, and the Kollam coast, from Alappad to Edava, until 2.30 pm on Sunday. Waves between 1.2 metres and 1.7 metres are expected along the Kanyakumari coast until 11.30 am.

Fishermen and coastal residents have been advised to remain vigilant in view of the possibility of high waves and sea incursions.
