Rain Continues Across Keralam; Heavy Rain, Strong Winds Likely

Thiruvananthapuram: Rain continues across the state, with several parts of Keralam receiving heavy showers until the early hours of Tuesday. The strengthening low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal is likely to bring heavy rain and winds reaching up to 40 kmph. Weather Department warning A well-marked low-pressure area is currently lying over the central-western Bay of Bengal and adjoining central-eastern Bay of Bengal. The system is likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a depression over the central-western Bay of Bengal within the next 24 hours. It is expected to intensify further into a deep depression over the central-western Bay of Bengal and adjoining northwestern Bay of Bengal during the subsequent 24 hours. The system is likely to continue moving west-northwestwards and reach near the north Andhra Pradesh-south Odisha coasts by the morning of September 23. A cyclonic circulation is prevailing over central Tamil Nadu and adjoining areas at an altitude of 4.5 to 7.6 km above mean sea level. A trough extending from Keralam, Tamil Nadu and the southwest Bay of Bengal to the centre of the cyclonic circulation over central Tamil Nadu and adjoining areas is also present at an altitude of 5.8 to 7.6 km above mean sea level. Keralam is likely to receive light to moderate rainfall from September 21 to 25. Isolated heavy rainfall is likely on September 21, 23, 24 and 25. The IMD has also warned of thunderstorms and strong winds reaching 30-40 kmph at isolated places in Keralam on September 21 and 22.
