Heavy Rain Likely in Kerala Over Next Five Days; Yellow Alert Issued in Multiple Districts

Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall across Keralam over the next five days, prompting a yellow alert in several districts.
For today, yellow alerts have been issued in Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, and Idukki districts. On the following day, alerts will remain in place for Idukki, Palakkad, and Wayanad. By Tuesday, Ernakulam, Idukki, and Wayanad districts are expected to remain under alert.
The IMD has warned of isolated heavy rainfall, defined as precipitation ranging between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm within a 24-hour period. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and strong winds reaching speeds of 40–50 km/h are also likely during this period. Public are urged to remain cautious.
In the immediate forecast, light rain is expected within the next three hours in parts of Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, and Kannur districts.
Further alerts include yellow alert for:
May 6, 2026: Ernakulam, Idukki, and Thrissur
May 7, 2026: Alappuzha, Kottayam, and Ernakulam
Residents in affected areas are advised to stay updated with official weather bulletins and take necessary precautions against potential hazards such as waterlogging, strong winds, and lightning.
