Kozhikode: The Kerala Police has launched a dedicated Women’s Safety Wing under the State Women’s Cell to improve protection for women and children and ensure quicker access to justice.
The new wing will set up women’s safety units in every police station in the State, State Police Chief Ravada A. Chandrasekhar said at the launch held at the Majestic Auditorium in Kozhikode. Each unit will be led by a woman Sub-Inspector appointed as a Women Safety Officer.
At the event, the Director General of Police unveiled the wing’s logo and handed badges to Women Safety Officers Sub-Inspectors Sreesitha, Tulsi, and Leela.
The function was presided over by Deputy Inspector General of Police (Social Policing Division) Ajitha Beegum. Additional Director General of Police S. Sreejith delivered the keynote address. North Zone Inspector General Rajpal Meena and District Police Chief T. Narayanan also attended.
A senior officer said the units would start functioning this week. “The programme was launched, and Women’s Safety Wings will begin operating in each station immediately,” the officer said.
