Thiruvananthapuram: Heavy and incessant rains continued to lash various parts of Kerala on Sunday, uprooting trees, triggering mudslides in the high ranges, and inundating several low-lying areas.
While no major casualties have been reported, sporadic damage to houses and vehicles was recorded across districts.
In Malappuram, a house in the hilly region of Kottakkal was damaged by a mudslide on Saturday evening following continuous rainfall. The family residing there escaped unhurt.
In Wayanad’s Sultan Bathery and Chungam in Kottayam, large trees were uprooted, temporarily disrupting traffic. Fire and rescue personnel swiftly responded by clearing the roads.
In Nileswaram, Kasaragod, vehicles were damaged after an uprooted tree fell on them, according to local residents.
With heavy rainfall continuing in Thiruvananthapuram, authorities have issued a warning regarding increased water release from the Neyyar Dam. All four shutters of the dam are scheduled to be raised by 20 centimeters each on Sunday morning. People residing along the banks of the Neyyar River have been advised to remain vigilant.
