Kerala High Court to Hear Sugathan's Interim Bail Plea for Oath-Taking Today

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala High Court is set to hear on Monday the plea filed by BJP councillor R. Sugathan seeking interim bail to enable him to take the oath of office while being detained under the Kerala Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act (KAAPA).
During the previous hearing, the court had asked the state government whether the oath-taking ceremony could be conducted inside the prison and sought its response. The government has reportedly submitted its reply, and the court is expected to deliver its decision based on that response.
According to a Special Branch report, there is a possibility of law and order issues if Sugathan is brought to the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation office for the oath-taking ceremony. Taking this assessment into account, the court explored the possibility of administering the oath inside the prison.
Preparations have also been initiated for the oath-taking ceremony, with the Mayor directing the Corporation Secretary and other officials to make the necessary arrangements. Instructions have also been issued to facilitate the required arrangements if officials have to travel to the prison for the ceremony.
