Special Guidelines Issued by the Disaster Management Authority for the Public:
People living in areas prone to landslides, mudslides, and flash floods should shift to safer locations as per the directions of the authorities.
Residents along riverbanks and downstream of dams should proactively relocate following official instructions.
Those in disaster-prone areas must ensure relief camps are operational in their locality and move there during daytime hours. Local bodies and revenue authorities can be contacted for assistance.
Given the possibility of strong winds, residents of houses without secure roofing or in poorly built structures must exercise extreme caution.
If any dangerous situation is observed, people should immediately contact authorities and shift to safer places as a precautionary measure.
Be alert to hazards caused by fallen trees or collapsed poles due to high winds.
Under no circumstances should anyone attempt to cross rivers, swim, fish, or engage in any water-related activities in rivers or other water bodies during heavy rainfall.
Avoid climbing on bridges over water bodies, taking selfies, or gathering in groups at such locations.
Refrain from all non-essential travel during periods of heavy rain. Trips to waterfalls, reservoirs, and hilly regions must be completely avoided until weather warnings are withdrawn.
Exercise special caution while traveling on roads near water bodies. Be alert on roads undergoing maintenance as well.
Due to heavy rain, the likelihood of road accidents increases—this must be anticipated. Never attempt to drive through flooded roads near overflowing reservoirs.
Any trees, poles, boards, walls, etc., that are in a dangerous condition in public or private spaces must be secured. Overhanging or weak trees should be pruned. Any potential hazards must be reported to the authorities.
Those in disaster-prone areas must prepare an emergency kit and keep it ready at all times.
24x7 control rooms are operational in all taluks and districts across Kerala. In case of any danger or for assistance, people can contact the toll-free numbers 1077 and 1070.
