Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall across Kerala for the next five days. Yellow alerts have been issued for six districts on Sunday in view of the expected intense precipitation.

The districts under yellow alert are Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Kozhikode, Wayanad, and Kannur, where isolated heavy showers are anticipated. The IMD classifies "isolated heavy rainfall" (ISOL H) as precipitation ranging between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm over a 24-hour period. The rain is expected to be accompanied by lightning and thunderstorms.

Authorities have urged residents living in areas prone to landslides, mudslides, and flash floods to relocate to safer locations in accordance with official directives. Those residing along riverbanks and downstream of dams have also been advised to exercise caution and move to safer areas as a precautionary measure.

The IMD has further warned that isolated spells of moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning, along with strong winds of up to 40 km/h, are likely in the districts of Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasaragod over the next three hours.

Rough sea conditions are also expected along the Kerala and Lakshadweep coasts, with wind speeds of 35 to 45 km/h and gusts reaching up to 55 km/h at times.
