Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala is expected to receive significant rainfall over the next five days, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The presence of a cyclonic circulation over the southeast Arabian Sea is likely to bring light to moderate rain across the state. From today until the 26th, isolated heavy rain is expected, with possibilities of thunderstorms from Monday through Wednesday.

In view of the forecast, a Yellow Alert has been issued for seven districts today — Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, and Ernakulam. Heavy rain refers to rainfall between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm within a 24-hour period.

The cyclonic circulation currently persisting over the Kanyakumari Sea is likely to intensify into a low-pressure area over the Kanyakumari region, Sri Lanka, and the southwest Bay of Bengal by tomorrow. It may further strengthen in the following days, the IMD noted.

Meanwhile, the well-marked low-pressure system that was earlier located over the southern Andaman Sea and the Malacca Strait has now moved over Malaysia and the Malacca Strait. It is expected to travel west-northwest and intensify into a depression over the south Andaman Sea within the next 24 hours. Over the subsequent 48 hours, it may continue in the same direction and strengthen into a cyclonic storm over the southern Bay of Bengal.
