Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued revised weather alerts across Kerala as the state continues to be battered by heavy rainfall and strong winds. A low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal is intensifying monsoon activity, prompting fresh warnings for potential hazards in various regions.

The IMD has declared Orange Alerts—indicating very heavy rainfall—for Pathanamthitta and Idukki districts. Rainfall in the range of 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm within 24 hours is expected in isolated areas. The alert signifies a heightened level of preparedness for potential flooding, landslides, and disruptions. Additionally, Orange Alerts have been issued for the following districts:

July 25: Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, and Ernakulam

July 26: Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, and Palakkad

Yellow Alerts, indicating heavy rain with potential localized impact, have been issued for multiple districts on different days:

July 25: Thiruvananthapuram, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod

July 26: Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod

July 27: Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod

July 28: Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod

Several parts of Kerala have already suffered damage due to the ongoing adverse weather. In Thamarassery, Kozhikode district, a wall collapse destroyed a shed next to a house. Hilly areas of Idukki district are experiencing not just rain but also strong winds. Coastal regions are also feeling the impact—Edavanakkad in Ernakulam witnessed seawater breaching homes due to rough sea conditions.

With continuous rainfall forecasted for the next five days, authorities urge the public to remain cautious, especially in hilly and low-lying areas. Emergency services are on high alert, and district administrations are monitoring the situation closely.
