Thiruvananthapuram: Summer heat continues to tighten its grip across Keralam, with the state capital recording a particularly severe spike even as summer showers bring partial relief to other parts of the state. Thiruvananthapuram recorded a maximum temperature of 37.8 degrees Celsius on Sunday, shattering a 38-year-old record. The previous high for the district was 37.7 degrees Celsius, recorded on March 16, 1988. On Monday, the temperature dipped slightly to 36 degrees, but still remained 1.8 degrees above the seasonal average.

The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasaragod districts on Tuesday, anticipating intensification of pre-monsoon showers in those areas. Pre-monsoon rain has brought modest relief to Palakkad, where temperatures fell by 0.5 degrees on Monday. Kozhikode also saw a drop of 1.3 degrees. However, Kottayam, Thiruvananthapuram, and Punalur continued to experience elevated temperatures, running nearly two degrees above the seasonal average. Punalur recorded the day's highest at 38 degrees Celsius.

The Meteorological Department has urged residents across the state to take necessary precautions as the summer heat shows no sign of relenting in the days ahead.
