Kerala CM Announces Land Transfer to BrahMos Aerospace for Defense Expansion, Boosting State's Growth

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has announced that the state government will transfer 180 acres of land to BrahMos Aerospace Trivandrum Limited. This move aims to strengthen Kerala's progress and expand its defense manufacturing capabilities. The Chief Minister also shared the encouraging news that the Supreme Court has granted permission to hand over land within the open jail compound at Kattakkada, Thiruvananthapuram, to the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) for setting up a BrahMos missile manufacturing unit.

Following BrahMos' request for land to establish the missile production unit, two potential locations were identified. After thorough deliberation, land at Nettukaltheri in Kattakkada was selected as the site for the project. Due to challenges in vacating the land, the government sought expert legal advice. Based on favorable guidance, the government approached the Supreme Court, which allowed the land transfer to proceed.

On the land provided, DRDO will set up the second missile production unit under Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL), focusing on the production of advanced missiles and strategic defense equipment. In addition, the Supreme Court has also granted permission for the establishment of the National Forensic Science University on 32 acres of land. Furthermore, 45 acres will be allocated for the creation of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) Battalion Headquarters.

The Chief Minister emphasized, "This initiative will have a transformative impact on the nation's defense sector. The establishment of these defense units will not only strengthen our defense infrastructure but will also create significant employment opportunities and attract substantial investments, thereby fueling Kerala’s continued growth and development."
