Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala cabinet has recommended a special assembly session on November 1, coinciding with Kerala ‘Piravi’, the day marking the state’s formation.

In a key decision on land policy, the cabinet announced that forest land ownership titles will be granted irrespective of the size of existing constructions. The move extends provisions of the Kerala Land Assignment Rules of 1993, which previously allowed land allocation only for shops on forest land held before 1977.

The cabinet also approved the construction of a new non- SEZ IT building at Kochi’s Infopark campus. Covering 1.9 lakh square feet and costing 118.33 crore rupees, the project will be funded through Infopark’s resources and a bank loan. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, in a post on X, said the facility is expected to create over 2,000 jobs, further boosting Kochi’s presence in the global IT sector.

Meanwhile, a 4.04 crore rupee tender has been cleared for the renovation of a pond on the eastern side of the Koodalmanikyam temple in Thrissur, reflecting ongoing attention to heritage and public spaces.
