Kerala Cabinet Approves ₹1 Lakh Aid for Mundakkai–Chooralmala Township Families

The Kerala Cabinet has approved a financial assistance of ₹1 lakh each for beneficiaries of the township project at Mundakkai–Chooralmala in Wayanad to purchase essential household items for their new homes. The funds will be provided from the Chief Minister's Distress Relief Fund, and the amount will be released upon submission of purchase bills.
Aid for Children Who Lost Parents in Road Accident
The cabinet also sanctioned ₹5 lakh each from the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund for children who lost their parents in a road accident on the MC Road at Pappala near Kilimanoor in Kollam. The amount will be deposited in a bank account in the name of the children’s grandmother until they reach adulthood, with the interest used for their educational needs.
Idukki Special Development Package
The government approved the implementation of the Idukki Special Development Package through Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB). The projects include the development of the Munnar Multispeciality Hospital, expansion of the Kattappana Taluk Hospital, and construction of a flyover at Munnar.
Additionally, administrative approval worth ₹93 crore was granted for the renovation of the Padinjarethara–Fourth Mile road section of the Vythiri–Taruvana road in Wayanad.
Policy for Children Living in Streets
The cabinet decided to formulate a comprehensive state policy for the safety, protection and rehabilitation of children living on the streets. The policy follows directions issued by the Supreme Court of India on January 17, 2022, and aims to ensure protection, health care and identity documentation for vulnerable children.
New Aided College in Pathanamthitta
Approval was granted to start a new aided college named Veerashaiva Institute of Arts & Science under the management of the Veerashaiva Educational & Empowerment Trust near Adoor in Pathanamthitta. The college will offer courses such as BA English Language & Literature, B.Com Corporation, and B.Com with Computer Applications, subject to university approval.
Coastal Protection Projects
The cabinet extended the tenure of the Kerala State Fishermen Debt Relief Commission until September 30, 2026. It also approved coastal protection works at ten major erosion hotspots with financial assistance from the Asian Development Bank under the Kerala Sustainable Coastal Protection and Climate Resilience Planning Project.
Locations identified for the works include Shanghumukham in Thiruvananthapuram, Varkala, Alappad in Kollam, Valiyazheekal and Thrikkunnapuzha in Alappuzha, Vypin in Ernakulam, Kodungallur and Kaipamangalam in Thrissur, Ponnani in Malappuram, Kappad in Kozhikode, Thalassery in Kannur, and Valiyaparamba in Kasaragod.
Research Centre in Memory of Justice V. R. Krishna Iyer
The government decided to acquire Sadgamaya, the residence of former Supreme Court judge V. R. Krishna Iyer, to establish a research centre on law and justice in his memory.
Other Key Decisions
Approval was granted to convert one acre of land for rehabilitating 18 families displaced for the construction of the Veli Amusement Park project.
Salary revisions were approved for employees of several public sector institutions, including the Kerala Tourism Development Corporation, Kerala State Coir Corporation, Steel and Industrial Forgings Ltd, Kerala Health Research and Welfare Society, Oushadhi and State Council of Educational Research and Training.
Jeena Jose was appointed as the Law Member of the Kerala State Electricity Regulatory Commission.
Creation of New Government Posts
The cabinet approved the creation of several new posts across departments, including:
60 posts in the Kerala Motor Vehicles Department (34 Assistant Motor Vehicle Inspectors and 26 Motor Vehicle Inspectors).
68 posts in the Kerala State Beverages Corporation.
Posts in the Scheduled Tribes Development Department and the Forensic Science Laboratory.
Additional positions in the office of the Advocate General of Kerala and other government institutions.
The cabinet also approved the continuation of 688 temporary posts under the Kerala Land Board until December 31, 2026.
