Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government has sanctioned 93.4 crore rupees for the Supplementary Nutrition Programme, aimed at ensuring proper nutrition for mothers and children, Finance Minister K. N. Balagopal announced. The programme is a major component of the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) scheme.
The initiative focuses on addressing malnutrition and improving health outcomes for children and mothers. Beneficiaries include children under six years of age, pregnant women, and lactating mothers, who receive nutritious meals through Anganwadi centres across the state.
The programme is implemented by the State Department of Women and Child Development in collaboration with local self-government institutions. As part of this initiative, the ‘Poshaka Balyam’ project is also running, providing milk and eggs to Anganwadi children to further enhance their nutrition.
