Kozhikode: Samastha Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulama General Secretary Kanthapuram A P Aboobacker Musliyar has demanded that the government withdraw its decision to reduce tax on low-strength liquor. He said that allowing the import of low-strength liquor even as authorities run "Operation Toofan" against narcotics would be akin to handing a monkey a ladder. He was inaugurating Samastha's foundation day conference.

Permitting liquor to be sold at lower prices, he said, would only help liquor traders boost their sales, and the government must therefore withdraw the move. He added that complete prohibition should be implemented in Keralam, saying that is the only way peace can prevail in the state.
