Thiruvananthapuram: To promote innovation in higher education and prevent the migration of youth from Kerala, a new action plan is being implemented that leverages the expertise of international Malayali researchers and academic professionals. The initiative aims to elevate Kerala’s higher education system to international standards.

As part of this effort, international experts participated in a seminar titled National Research Conclave: Global Institutional Shifts and Lessons for Kerala’s Higher Education System, focused on educational innovation. The seminar highlighted that although a significant number of young professionals leave the state for opportunities abroad, their skills have not been fully utilised for Kerala’s development. The ongoing educational reform seeks to address this challenge.

The discussion was moderated by Prof. Rajan Gurukal, Vice Chairman of the Higher Education Council, and included contributions from Dr. Saji Gopinath, Vice Chancellor of Kerala Digital University. The seminar was organised as part of the state government’s initiative to reform higher education with the input of foreign experts. The next step is to transform these discussions into practical policy measures.

A digital project called Solar Connect will also be launched, linking the state’s higher education institutions with Kerala’s diaspora scholars worldwide. The policy’s official web portal (scholarconnect.kshec.org) will be inaugurated on Wednesday, coinciding with the closing ceremony of the National Research Conference. Minister R. Bindhu will serve as the moderator for the event.
