IMD Issues Yellow Alert for 10 Kerala Districts Amid Heavy Rain

Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of intensified rainfall across Kerala and issued a Yellow Alert for 10 districts. The districts under alert are Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Malappuram, Wayanad and Kozhikode.


According to the IMD, heavy rainfall is likely to continue over the next four days due to prevailing weather systems affecting the region. Residents in the affected districts have been advised to remain vigilant and follow updates issued by local authorities.


The weather department has also announced district-wise Yellow Alerts for the coming days:


May 31: Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam and Malappuram.

June 1: Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Malappuram and Wayanad.

June 2: Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha and Ernakulam.


Despite the forecast of heavy rain over land, the IMD stated that there are currently no restrictions on fishing activities along the Kerala, Karnataka and Lakshadweep coasts on May 29, 2026.


Rainfall Outlook for the Next Five Days


May 29, 2026:

Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Malappuram, Wayanad and Kozhikode.


May 31, 2026:

Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam and Malappuram.


June 1, 2026:

Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Malappuram and Wayanad.


June 2, 2026:

Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha and Ernakulam.


Authorities have urged the public to exercise caution in areas prone to waterlogging, landslides and strong winds as the wet weather pattern persists across the state.
