Thiruvananthapuram: Rainfall is picking up again across Keralam, with the India Meteorological Department warning of isolated heavy rain in Idukki district over the next three hours based on the latest radar imagery. An orange alert has been declared for Idukki as a precautionary measure. Winds of up to 40 km/h are also likely, the IMD said.
Strict advisories have been issued in view of the intensifying rain. People are advised to avoid all non-essential travel, remain in safe areas and ensure orderly traffic movement.
Likely impacts
Waterlogging on major roads and reduced visibility may cause traffic congestion. Low-lying areas and riverbanks face the risk of inundation and flooding. Uprooted trees could disrupt power supply and pose safety hazards. Partial damage to houses and structures is possible. Landslides and mudslides remain a risk. Rain may adversely affect people and livestock, and unsafe structures in coastal areas could sustain damage.
