Heavy Rainfall Likely in Kerala, Yellow Alert in 5 Districts

Thiruvananthapuram: Summer rain is expected to arrive in Kerala as a relief, with the Central Meteorological Department predicting heavy rainfall in the coming days. This is due to low-pressure areas forming over the Indian Ocean and the Bay of Bengal.
As a precautionary measure, many districts have been placed under a yellow alert by the Central Meteorological Department. Warnings have been issued for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, and Idukki on February 21 (Saturday) and for Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, and Idukki again on February 22 (Sunday).
‘Heavy rainfall’ is defined as rainfall ranging from 64.5 millimeters to 115.5 millimeters. The rainfall is being caused by climate change occurring off the southern Sri Lankan coast.
Meteorologists point out that this weather pattern will eventually spread northward, with the possibility of rain across the state on February 21 and 22. Since there is a chance of lightning along with the rain, the State Disaster Management Authority has urged the public to exercise caution. It is recommended to move agricultural products, including paddy ready for harvest, to safe locations.
Currently, there are no restrictions for fishermen to go to sea, but weather alerts should still be considered.
