Kerala: With heavy monsoon rains causing widespread damage across Kerala, the CPI(M) state secretariat has called upon party workers to actively participate in rescue operations and extend support to those affected by the calamity.
Contrary to usual patterns, the monsoon has arrived early this year, accompanied by intense rainfall. According to the India Meteorological Department, heavy rain is expected to continue in the coming days, raising concerns of further damage, especially in northern Kerala, which has already been severely impacted. The rain is now spreading to other parts of the state as well.
The government has undertaken precautionary measures in response to the forecast. National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams have been deployed, alongside the police, fire force, and Disaster Management Authority personnel. Sudden gusts of wind, landslides, and overflowing rivers have led to property damage and displacement in several areas. Relief camps have been opened in many districts to accommodate those affected.
Particular caution is advised in coastal and highland regions, which are especially vulnerable. Assistance is urgently needed for those residing in low-lying areas, riverbanks, and for families whose homes have been damaged. With water levels in rivers rising, disaster alerts have been issued in multiple districts. Several small dams have also been opened as a precaution.
The CPI(M) has urged its local representatives and party workers to stay vigilant and proactively intervene wherever needed. The state secretariat emphasized the importance of swiftly delivering all forms of aid to those in need and standing in solidarity with the affected population during this crisis.
