Thiruvananthapuram: The CPI(M) has announced that it will build a house for the family of Nithin Raj, the dental student who died by suicide following caste-based harassment by teachers.
The announcement was made by CPI(M) district secretary A A Rahim at a press conference in Thiruvananthapuram, in the presence of Minister V Sivankutty and MLA G Stephen.
Nithin Raj, a native of Uzhamalakkal near Nedumangad and a student of a dental college in Ancharakandi, had died by suicide, a tragedy that shocked the state. CPI(M) leaders said the loss has left the family devastated and assured that justice would be ensured.
State secretary M V Govindan had earlier pledged full support to the family, while Minister Sivankutty had personally visited their home and assured continued assistance.
Rahim said the decision to build a house was taken after detailed discussions, emphasizing that it is not merely an announcement but a commitment to immediate action. The foundation stone for the house will be laid on April 19 by M V Govindan, and construction is set to begin the following day.
He added that all necessary preparations have been made to ensure the project is completed at a fast pace. Discussions have also been held with Nithin’s family, who have agreed to the initiative.
