Nepotism in UDF Government's Pleader Appointments: CPI(M)

Thiruvananthapuram: The CPI(M) State Secretariat has alleged that the Chief Minister V D Satheesan's remarks on the appointment of government pleaders in the High Court amount to nepotism and a violation of the constitutional oath of office.

In a statement, the party claimed that the Chief Minister attempted to justify the appointment of individuals linked to the Sangh Parivar as government pleaders by citing a letter from the Indian Lawyers Congress, the legal wing affiliated with the Congress.

According to the CPI(M), the Chief Minister's remarks indicate that appointments, which should be made only after consultation with the Advocate General and without favouritism or personal preference as required under constitutional principles, were instead influenced by considerations outside that framework.

The party further added that within just a month of the UDF government assuming office, corruption and nepotism had become widespread. It accused the Chief Minister of taking the administration to an "extremely disgraceful" state and said the people of Kerala would recognise the government's approach, the statement added.
