C J Roy's Death: Central Agencies Should Adopt Humane Approach, Says M V Govindan

Kannur: CPI(M) State Secretary M V Govindan has called for a comprehensive investigation into the complaints raised by the family of Bengaluru-based business tycoon C J Roy, who died by suicide during an Income Tax raid at his company's headquarters. He emphasized the need to examine the circumstances carefully, especially given the possibility of criticism regarding central agencies’ involvement. “We do not yet know exactly what happened while the raid was ongoing in Bengaluru,” he said.
The family has alleged that the industrialist, who headed a large business conglomerate, took his life against the backdrop of the raid. They also claim that the raid continued for about an hour and a half even after his death. Govindan pointed out that central agencies should be capable of taking a humane approach in such situations. “Anything discovered during a raid can be legally addressed, yet it is necessary to investigate why a death like this occurred,” he added.
