Thiruvananthapuram: The KPCC has sought to contain the embarrassment caused to the Congress soon after it came to power by taking action against both sides involved in the Chirayinkeezhu clash. A person facing allegations in the incident and the complainant have both been suspended from the party in connection with the assault at the house of a Congress mandalam vice president.

As part of the action, Congress leader Palayam Pradeep, a supporter of MLA Ramya Haridas, and Congress mandalam vice president S Sajad have been suspended from the party. However, no action has been taken against the MLA, who led the attack at Sajjad’s house. Despite evidence pointing against her, efforts are being made to protect the MLA.

At around 10 pm on Friday, the MLA and her group allegedly reached the house of Congress mandalam vice president S Sajad at Pulimoodu in Chirayinkeezhu and attacked him. Congress leader and district panchayat member Sajith Muttappalam, who arrived after learning about the incident, was also allegedly assaulted.

Local Congress workers have been strongly dissatisfied with the activities of Palayam Pradeep, a native of Palakkad. They had complained to the KPCC that Pradeep was allegedly collecting money on a large scale from contractors and others on behalf of the MLA.

Palayam Pradeep had also attended a meeting of elected representatives and officials of the Chirayinkeezhu Block Panchayat the previous day. Mandalam vice president S Sajad posted about Pradeep’s participation in the mandalam committee’s WhatsApp group. The MLA and her group attacked Sajad at his residence over the post.

Sajad’s wife and his daughter, who is a student, were present at the house during the incident. There was also an alleged attempt to assault them.
