Kochi: Investigators conducted a seven-hour search at the residence of the judge who owns the vehicle involved in the fatal Cheranalloor crash. They also seized the luxury motorcycle used by the 17-year-old who hit and killed Jayabalakrishnan.

CCTV footage from the apartment complex and vehicle documents were taken into custody. The 17-year-old had been driving both the luxury motorcycle and the Mercedes-Benz without a licence.

The Ernakulam Sessions Court will consider a petition seeking cancellation of the judge’s son’s bail on Wednesday.

Jayabalakrishnan’s family will also file a writ petition in the High Court on Wednesday, seeking action against the judge. Investigators have obtained CCTV footage showing the accused driving the car out of a flat in Aluva in the early hours of the day of the accident.

The Motor Vehicles Department has initiated steps to suspend the vehicle’s registration. A show-cause notice will be issued on Wednesday to T Rino Francis Xavier, the Additional District Judge at Irinjalakuda and the car’s owner and father of the accused.

The notice is being issued because he allowed his minor son to drive the car. The judge also handles motor accident compensation cases. Further action will be decided after examining his explanation.

The 17-year-old will not be eligible for a driving licence until he turns 25.
