Thiruvananthapuram: In a major initiative to strengthen robotics education in government schools across the state, advanced robotic kits will be distributed to all high schools through KITE.

In February, 2,500 advanced kits will be deployed to schools via the Little KITES units. Earlier, 29,000 robotic kits had already been provided to schools, ensuring widespread access to practical robotics education. With robotics now included in the 10th-grade ICT curriculum, more than 400,000 students are expected to benefit from this initiative.

The new advanced kits, designed to support Internet of Things (IoT)-based devices, include several cutting -edge features. The primary component is an ESP-32 development board with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, essential for operating IoT systems. Various sensors are also included, such as ultrasonic distance sensors, soil moisture sensors, PIR motion sensors, and line-tracking sensors. Hardware components comprise a 4WD smart car chassis for building robotic vehicles, a submersible mini water pump, and a rechargeable lithium-ion battery pack.

Using these kits, students will be able to undertake numerous practical projects beyond textbook knowledge. These include robots that follow specific paths, smart irrigation systems that automatically water plants, motion -detecting security systems, assistive smart walking sticks for visually impaired individuals, smart weather stations, air quality monitoring devices, and energy-saving solutions.

In addition, the kits provide opportunities for students to gain an in-depth understanding of electronic circuits, identify and troubleshoot problems independently, and develop programming skills in block coding, Python, and C. The initiative aims to make robotics education more practical, hands-on, and technologically advanced, equipping students with essential skills for the future.
