Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan announced that the construction of 5 lakh houses has been completed through the LIFE project, which was launched by the LDF government in 2016 with the goal of building a Kerala free of homelessness. The Chief Minister stated that the achievement will be officially announced in Thiruvananthapuram on the 24th.

Approximately Rs 20,831.60 crore has been spent on the LIFE scheme until February 2026. The LIFE project is a model initiative in the country in terms of efficiency and integrity. Through this project, the government ensures financial assistance of Rs 4 lakh for families, while Scheduled Tribe (ST) families receive Rs 6 lakh. The LIFE project, which builds secure homes for the homeless through exemplary intervention, is part of the LDF government's people-oriented development vision. The Chief Minister emphasised that we can move forward together to create a new Kerala where everyone lives happily and contentedly.

As of January 31, 482,736 houses had been completed, and 117,874 were at various stages of construction. With the release of the first installment of Rs 400 crore from the HUDCO loan sanctioned for the Life Mission, the construction of more houses is expected to be completed by February. So far, Rs 20,638.16 crore has been spent on the project, with Rs 18,149.26 crore being the state's share. According to data until January 31, 152 houses are being built per day under the Life Mission, which means six houses are constructed every hour, or one house every ten minutes.
