Kalpetta: In Wayanad’s Muppainad Panchayat, the LDF toppled the UDF’s stronghold. Out of 17 wards, LDF won nine. Since the formation of the panchayat, UDF had been in power. This marks the first time in 25 years that LDF has come to power in the panchayat. Meanwhile, UDF managed to lead in only eight wards, even in sitting seats.

LDF candidates achieved a resounding victory in Melearapett, Nallannur, Kallikeni, Chellamkodu, Chitragiri, Sunrise Valley, Thinapuram, and Mankunnu wards. In seven of these wards, LDF secured a clear majority, driving their overall advance.

Since its establishment in 2000, UDF had controlled Muppainad Panchayat. The LDF’s victory came in a panchayat traditionally dominated by the Muslim League. The electorate rejected the UDF administration, which had failed to deliver development over two decades. Even though BJP and Welfare Party candidates contested, they could not make a significant impact.
