Kathmandu: Voting began in Kerala following the Gen Z riots over the social media ban. The voting, which started at 7 AM, will end at 5 PM. Three leaders are contesting for the position of Prime Minister.

Former Kathmandu mayor and Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) leader, Balendra Shah; Nepali Congress leader, Gagan Thapa; and former Prime Minister and Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist-Leninist) president, K P Sharma Oli, who was ousted after the Gen Z campaign, are the contenders. The election campaign ended at midnight on Monday, the 18th. There are 18.9 million voters, and 3,406 candidates are contesting for 165 seats.

The riots in Nepal began after the Supreme Court banned social media accounts that did not comply with the country’s laws. As a result of the unrest, K P Sharma Oli, who was also the CPN (UML) chairman, had to resign. Seventy-seven people were killed in the riots. The interim government, led by former Chief Justice Sushila Karki, is currently in charge.
