New York: The United States has taken Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, to New York after abducting them during an air strike carried out by invading Venezuela. US President Donald Trump said that the two would be questioned in New York.
Trump announced that two cases have been registered against Maduro in a Manhattan Federal Court, accusing the Venezuelan President of arms trafficking and drug smuggling. In his speech, Trump claimed that Maduro and his wife were taken by helicopter from the presidential palace in Venezuela to an American warship. Trump also shared an image showing Maduro with his hands tied and eyes blindfolded.
Trump further claimed that the United States would govern Venezuela until a transfer of power takes place. The actions of US President Donald Trump, described as defying all international laws and democratic values, have drawn widespread condemnation. After pressure tactics aimed at overthrowing the Venezuelan government failed, the US military action was carried out in blatant disregard of international law and sovereignty of a nation. Protests erupted across the world in response. A national emergency has been declared in Venezuela, while countries including Russia, China, Brazil, Cuba, and Iran have issued strong warnings against the United States.
The attack was carried out early Saturday morning, when the Delta Force, a special operations unit of the US military, launched an assault lasting about half an hour in residential areas of Venezuela, including capital Caracas.
