Trump to Sue BBC for 5 Billion Dollars Over Misleading Edited Footage

Washington DC: US president Donald Trump said on friday that he will sue BBC upto 5 billion dollars in damages for releasing a misleading edited footage of his speech.
The step comes after the deadline for settling the issue by paying compensation expired. However, following the controversy, the prominent British broadcaster had issued an apology. Trump’s lawyers had earlier sent a notice to the BBC stating that the documentary must be withdrawn by Friday, failing which the organization would have to pay at least 1 billion dollars in damages. It was after this notice that the BBC apologized.
BBC Director-General Tim Davie and News CEO Deborah Turness resigned following the incident, taking responsibility for the mistake. “It’s true that some mistakes happened, but we are proud of the BBC’s work and will continue to stand for fearless journalism,” said outgoing Director-General Tim Davie.
The resignations came after reports that the BBC Panorama documentary had edited Trump’s speech in a way that misled the public. The accusation was that in the documentary “Trump: A Second Chance”, broadcasted last year, the BBC combined two different Trump speeches to create the impression that he had encouraged the 2021 Capitol Hill riot.
