Washington DC: US President Donald Trump has warned that the United States will launch a major airstrike against Iran tonight. He also threatened that US forces would soon take control of key energy infrastructure, including Kharg Island, one of Iran’s main oil export hubs.

Trump made the statement through his social media platform, Truth Social. He said that the US would take complete control of Iran’s oil and gas markets and suggested that Washington could repeat the strategy it used in Venezuela, where they sought influence over the oil sector following illegal capture of former president Nicolas Maduro.

However, Trump did not provide specific details about the planned operation or reveal the scale of military deployment that would be required.

The announcement comes after several days of escalating attacks and counterattacks between the United States and Iran. Following the collapse of temporary ceasefire talks mediated by Pakistan in April, fears of a wider conflict in the region have intensified.
