Washington DC: US President Donald Trump has warned that the United States will target Iran's critical infrastructure, including major bridges and power plants, through airstrikes if Tehran refuses to return to peace negotiations. He made the remarks in an interview with Fox News as the military confrontation between the two countries entered its fourth consecutive day.

"Next week it gets really bad for them because next week comes the power plants, " he told Fox News. "Next week comes the bridges. We're going to knock out all their power plants. We're going to knock out all their bridges unless they get to the table and negotiate," Trump said.

Trump also confirmed that he had dropped a previously proposed 20% fee on cargo passing through the Strait of Hormuz. Instead, he said he had ordered the US Navy to enforce a renewed blockade of Iranian ports.

He added that if Iran continues to reject diplomatic talks, the United States will intensify its air campaign, with attacks on energy infrastructure remaining among the options under consideration.

Meanwhile, the United Nations has expressed serious concern over threats to target civilian infrastructure such as power plants and public transportation systems, warning that such actions could have severe humanitarian consequences.
