Washington D C: Following a landmark ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court, President Donald Trump has once again increased tariffs on trade partner countries. Trump announced that the temporary tariff on imports from all countries will be raised from 10 percent to 15 percent.

The Supreme Court of the United States has ruled that Trump’s imposition of additional tariffs on trading partners was an abuse of power and therefore unlawful. The Court struck down the tariff measures imposed by Trump, observing that he had misused a law intended to be applied only during national emergency situations.

Angered by the verdict, Trump ordered an immediate 10 percent tariff on all imports in addition to existing duties. This has now been increased to 15 percent.

Reacting on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump said that many countries have been exploiting the United States for decades and described the court’s ruling as ridiculous.

Under the Trade Act of 1974, the President is permitted to impose tariffs of up to 15 percent for a period of 150 days. With the new announcement, countries that have signed trade agreements with the U.S. will face a 15 percent tariff. However, under India’s trade agreement with the United States, the tariff rate will be 18 percent. Earlier, India had a tariff of only 3.5 percent before the imposition of a proposed 25 percent reciprocal tariff and a 25 percent penalty tariff.
