Sharif Osman Hadi’s Brother Accuses Bangladesh Interim Government of Orchestrating Assassination

The brother of murdered student protest leader Sharif Osman Hadi accused bangladesh's interim government of responsible for Hadi's assassination. He accused the government of orchestrating the killing to destabilise the country and derail the general elections slated for February 2026.
Speaking at a protest rally in Shahbagh, Sharif Omar Hadi said that a vested quarted within the government killed his brother and now they are using this as an excuse to derail the upcoming elections.
As per reports by Bangladesh media thedailystar, while addressing the government at a "Shahidi Shopoth" (Martyr's Oath) programme organised by Inqilab Moncho in front of the National Museum at Shahbagh, Omar Hadi said, "It is you who had Osman Hadi killed, and now you are trying to foil the election by using this as an issue."
He said his brother wanted the national election to be held by February and urged the authorities not to disrupt the election process.
"Ensure a speedy trial of the killers so the election environment is not harmed. The government has failed to show us any visible progress. If justice for Osman Hadi is not delivered, you too will be compelled to flee Bangladesh one day," he said as reported by thedailystar.
Osman Hadi's brother, according to media reports, further claimed that he was targeted because he refused to bow to any agency or "foreign masters".
The Daily star also reported that while speaking at the rally, Inqilab Moncho Member Secretary Abdullah Al Jaber reiterated the 30-working-day ultimatum given to the government to identify and arrest the killers, first announced in a press statement on Monday.
Violent protests have erupted in multiple cities in Bangladesh after prominent youth leader of the 2024 uprising Sharif Osman Hadi died at Singapore’s General Hospital on December 18.
He died from gunshot injuries sustained during an assassination attempt on December 12 in Bangladesh's capital Dhaka.
