Kathmandu: After the anti-government riots, in Nepal's first general election, former rap singer and former Kathmandu mayor Balendra Shah's political party, the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), is heading towards a massive majority. The election, which took place after KP Sharma Oli's government was ousted through protests in September, has seen significant gains for RSP.

According to available data, in the ongoing vote counting in 144 constituencies, RSP is leading in 104. The party has won in three constituencies. Balendra Shah contested in five constituencies against KP Sharma Oli, who has served as Prime Minister four times. In one of these constituencies, Shah secured 6,551 votes, leaving Oli far behind with only 1,428 votes.

The Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, and the Nepali Communist Party are leading in six constituencies. Other parties like the Rastriya Prajatantra Party, Progressive Democratic Party, and Shram Sanskriti Party are leading in one seat each. In the 275-seat parliament, 3,400 candidates are competing for 165 seats, while the remaining 110 seats will be filled through proportional representation voting. 60% of the electorate has cast their vote. Indian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randeep Jaiswal mentioned that the new government will strengthen diplomatic ties.
