New Delhi: Placing the nation’s self -respect at risk, the central government has once again drawn closer to the United States. Soon after American President Donald Trump called Narendra Modi a “great Prime Minister” and said he would always remain his friend, Modi quickly responded.

On social media, Modi said he greatly valued Trump’s remarks and shared his feelings, adding that the two countries were bound by a comprehensive, forward looking strategic partnership.

Yet, Trump had only recently posted online that “America has lost India.” Hours later, while speaking to the media, he changed course, clarifying that the US had not lost India and that his friendship with Modi would continue. At the same time, he voiced disappointment over India’s purchase of Russian oil, pointing out that the 50% tariff imposed was meant to reflect that.

“Modi is an excellent Prime Minister. I don’t like some of the things he is doing now. But India and America share a special bond,” Trump said.

Modi’s reaction seemed almost as if he had been waiting for a kind word from Trump. On Saturday morning, he publicly welcomed the praise on social media. But even with Trump’s open displeasure over Russian oil deals and America’s steep tariffs, Modi refrained from any criticism.

Despite punitive tariffs, strict visa rules, and harsh immigration measures that directly harm Indian interests, Modi continues to demonstrate unwavering subservience to Washington. Critics warn that such a stance could weaken India’s unity with China and Russia.
