Iran, US to Hold Talks in Oman Amid Rising Tensions

Iranian state-linked media reported that indirect negotiations between Iran and the United States are scheduled to take place on Friday in Oman, marking a notable moment in diplomatic efforts amid heightened tensions between the two countries.
According to several media outlets including Tasnim and ISNA, the discussions in Muscat will focus specifically on Iran’s nuclear program and the issue of sanctions relief, without expanding into broader regional or defence matters. Reports indicate that Iran’s delegation may be led by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, while Washington could be represented by its special envoy.
Oman, which has a history of hosting round-table nuclear talks between Iran and US, has not yet officially confirmed that it will host this week’s meeting. Similarly, the United States government has not publicly acknowledged the report.
The planned talks come against a backdrop of high diplomatic and military tensions, including recent confrontations at sea, underscoring the fragility of the situation even as both sides signal openness to dialogue.
Observers note that these negotiations, if they proceed as reported, will be a continuation of intermittent diplomatic engagement aimed at managing nuclear disputes and sanction disputes, even as other strategic issues remain unresolved.
