Tehran: The Embassy of India in Tehran has issued a fresh advisory urging all Indian nationals in Iran to leave the country “by available means of transport, including commercial flights” as the security situation continues to deteriorate amid escalating regional tensions. The guidance, posted on the embassy’s official social media and reiterated through emergency communications, follows earlier advisories issued in January this year.

In the updated advisory dated February 23, Indian authorities advised students, pilgrims, business travellers, tourists and other residents to depart Iran at the earliest, emphasising the need for heightened vigilance due to the volatile situation. Citizens and Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) were told to avoid areas experiencing protests or demonstrations and to maintain regular contact with the embassy for updates and assistance.

The embassy also provided emergency helpline numbers and contact email details to support Indians needing help during their departure process, and reminded those who have not yet registered with the mission to do so via the official online portal. Travelers were urged to keep passports, visas and identity documents readily accessible in case an urgent evacuation becomes necessary.

The advisory comes amid rising geopolitical tensions between Tehran and Washington, including fears of potential military action and widespread protests in parts of Iran, prompting similar safety warnings from other countries. Indian officials noted that the evolving situation could pose risks to foreign nationals, urging all Indians to act cautiously and consider leaving the country as conditions change.

The embassy’s repeated advisories reflect New Delhi’s assessment that the security landscape in Iran remains unpredictable, and that timely departure is vital for the safety of its citizens.
