Gaza: The Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas has announced that it has dissolved the governing committee that had administered the Gaza Strip for nearly two decades. The move, announced on Monday, is part of a plan to hand over civil administration in Gaza to an expert committee.

According to Ismail Al-Thawabta, head of Hamas' Government Media Office, Mohammed Al-Farra, the head of the government's Emergency Committee, has formally submitted his resignation. He said the committee was dissolved to facilitate administrative and governmental transition to the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG), which is expected to assume responsibility for governing the territory.

The NCAG was established by the "Board of Peace" formed during a ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel in October 2025, with US President Donald Trump serving as the mediator. The transfer of authority to the new technocratic body is expected to bring significant changes to Gaza's civil administration.

The announcement is being viewed as a step toward administrative restructuring and reconstruction efforts in Gaza following Hamas' long period in power. Diplomatic sources indicate that further details regarding the committee's composition and functioning are expected to be released in the coming days.

Observers believe that placing Gaza's administration under an expert committee could strengthen efforts to promote peace in the region. It is hoped that the new governance structure, reportedly established with international mediation including that of the United States, will prioritize infrastructure development and improve living conditions for Gaza's residents. The transfer of authority by Hamas is also expected to have significant implications for the political landscape of West Asia.
