Cairo: Fifteen people died in Sudan after a boat collapsed on the Nile River. The country’s medical group, Sudan Doctors Network, stated that the boat, which was carrying women and children, capsized in the Northern Nile River province. The team reported that 15 bodies have been recovered so far, while six people have escaped. Rescue teams are currently searching for the six individuals who are still missing.

The accident occurred on a ferry traveling to Taiba Al-Kwad and Daim Al-Qarai in the Shendi region. The Sudan Doctors Network stated that the lack of basic safety measures and negligence during the initial hours by local self-government departments and civil defense teams contributed to the accident. The severity of the incident was exacerbated by delays in providing assistance immediately after it occurred.

The Doctors’ Network called for the immediate deployment of specialised rescue teams and urgent search and rescue operations. They also urged that swift measures be taken to ensure the safety of water transport and prevent the recurrence of life-threatening disasters.
