Bangladesh Heads to General Election Amid Security Concerns at Polling Stations

Dhaka: The general election in Bangladesh will be held tomorrow. Voting will take place from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. According to data from the country’s Election Commission, out of 127,700,597 registered voters, about 3.58% are first-time voters.
More than half of the polling stations have been marked as having a “possibility of danger.” Police Inspector General Baharul Alam stated that out of the 43,000 polling stations, 24,000 have been classified as high- or moderate-risk stations.
Voting will be held in 299 constituencies on Thursday. The election in Sherpur-3 has been postponed due to the death of a candidate. In total, there are 350 seats, of which 50 represents female candidates.
A referendum on an 84-point reform package proposing administrative reforms will also be held as part of the process. Around one and a half crore Bangladeshi expatriates will also participate in voting this time.
