Countdown Starts for BTS's First Album in Four Years; Global Fandom ARMY Prepares for Release of 'Arirang'

Seoul: The global music industry is abuzz as fans count down to the long-awaited comeback of BTS, who are set to return with their new album ARIRANG on March 20, after completing South Korea’s mandatory military service.
The seven-member group—RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook—had taken a hiatus to fulfil national service requirements, a move that paused group activities at the peak of their global popularity.
With their return now imminent, anticipation has reached fever pitch among their fanbase, known as ARMY. Teasers and promotional content for ARIRANG have sparked intense discussion online, with many expecting the album to blend traditional Korean influences with BTS’s signature contemporary sound.
Media reports suggest the comeback marks not just a musical return, but a symbolic new chapter for the group, reflecting their personal growth during the hiatus. Industry analysts predict that the release could break streaming and sales records worldwide, given BTS’s massive global following.
The comeback will be accompanied by a live showcase event on March 21 at Seoul's iconic Gwanghamun square, expected to draw millions of viewers globally, followed by a documentary release that offers a behind-the-scenes look at their reunion and creative process.
The return of BTS is widely seen as one of the biggest events in global pop culture this year, with fans and industry observers alike watching closely as the group reclaims its place on the world stage.
Meanwhile, the teaser for the title track Swim from Arirang has surpassed one million views in less than an hour. Amidst the hype for the album release and live concert, South Korean President Lee Jae Myung urged heightened vigilance and emergency services to prepare for every possibility. He described the concert as an important occasion to reaffirm the country’s global cultural standing.
As per industry insiders, 260,000 people are expected to attend the live on 21st, which will be livestreamed through netflix in 190 countries.
