Kochi: Comedy-driven films have been drawing strong audience response in theatres lately, though comedy alone rarely guarantees a hit — fresh presentation and good packaging matter just as much. One film that won over audiences this way was "Bharatanatyam," starring Saiju Kurup, which became a favourite among Malayalis after its OTT release. Its sequel, "Bharatanatyam 2: Mohiniyattam," followed and went on to become a major success as well.
Now, the "Bharatanatyam" franchise is gearing up for a third instalment. At a success meet held today, the makers announced the new film, titled "Bharatanatyam 3: Rasaleela." The announcement was made by Sai Kumar and Kalaranjini. The film is expected to be in the horror-comedy genre.
The announcement has generated considerable excitement among moviegoers, who feel the franchise's content and commercial appeal place it in good stead, with many predicting it could turn into a big hit. Krishnadas Murali returns as writer and director for the third part as well. Produced under the banners of Thomas Thiruvalla Films and Saiju Kurup Entertainments, the film is being produced by Lini Mariam David and Anupama B Nambiar.
The cast of "Mohiniyattam" — Saiju Kurup, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Jagadish, Vinay Forrt, Baby Jean, Kalaranjini, Sreeja Ravi, Abhiram Radhakrishnan, Swathi Das Prabhu, Divya Nair, Sruthi Suresh, Nandu Pothuval, Jinil, Jivin, Santhosh Guruvayoor and Nistar Sait — are expected to return for the third instalment, alongside some new additions to the cast.
